Our proposal of the River Vah embankment in Ruzomberok was preceded by an
architectural competition for a pedestrian bridge between Ruzomberok and
village Likavka. Currently, the embankment in the center of the town is "occupied"
by primary road with heavy traffic, but from which the transit traffic will be diverted
to the highway in the near future. In Ruzomberok therefore consider the transformation
of the embankment with aim to create a public space for pedestrians and cyclists.
In our proposal we developed the intention to divide the primary road into two
separate circuits - direction to Poprad along the left bank of the river and the
direction to Zilina on the right bank. On the free space that arise on the Embankment
of General M. R. Stefanik (left bank) we created pedestrian zone with residential
and retail and services parterre towards the river along the length of the
circuit, so we wanted to expand the existing central pedestrian zone and attract
city life to this part of town. We completely removed the road barrier by underpass
so pedestrians and cyclists avoid a possible collision with a motor vehicle.
On the right bank we have "cleaned up" space of bus station. We
replaced needless stalls by the bus station office building and residential housing
with parterre. Part of the right embankment from the pedestrian bridge towards the
opposite side of the station we conceived as an area designed for outdoor relaxing
sports and leisure time activities.
