New
Student Pavilion is located in the park of the Square of Liberty in
the vicinity of the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University
of Technology in Bratislava.
Multifunctional pavilion should offer
students a space for exhibitions, summer theater performances,
lectures, meetings, discussions or cup of coffee when relaxing. Our
intention was to create an oasis of calm right in the bustling city
center, which meant to combine elements of natural environment and
appropriately interconnect them with each other. Parts of the solid
oriented to the building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we
wrapped a vertical shot towards the sky, to get the interior
illumination from above and through glazed front and rear facades
also illumination at ground level. The resulting combined effect of
the two lights also symbolize the mystical combination of heaven and
earth in one common area. Rotation of the solid to heaven was not an
end in itself and had also function as a justification for the roofs
of the auditorium of exterior space and floor space for interior
auditorium ending in small cafes.
As regards design, we have
designed the building a steel structure. We chose the perforated
expanded metal as a facade element that neatly match grew green and
raised harmonious feeling of placing the pavilion in a natural
environment park.
